Job Description
Facilitate and participate in activities associated with client care and the functioning of the Prosthetic and

Orthotic Department, in line with Alice Springs Hospital and other Department of Health objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Facilitate and participate in activities associated with client care and the functioning of the Prosthetic and Orthotic Department,

in line with Alice Springs Hospital and other CAHS and Department of Health objectives.

2. To assist with information sharing to stakeholders on appropriate prosthetic and orthotic technical procedures.

3. To manufacture prostheses and orthoses for people under the direction of Alice Springs Hospital Prosthetist and/or Podiatrist.

4. Support prosthetic rehabilitation activities provided by the Amputee Service through participation within the Amputee Group, as

directed by the Amputee Service clinical team.

5. Ensure a high standard of technical service is provided through the manufacture, modification or repair of prostheses, orthoses

and footwear.

6. Ensure a high quality of workmanship by accepting responsibility for standards of work undertaken.

7. Assist in the provision of prosthetic and orthotic devices through accurate interpretation of technical requirements as prescribed

by the clinician.

8. Take the lead in the maintenance of workshop equipment in accordance with workplace health and safety guidelines and assist

with procurement procedures.

9. Assist in maintaining client records and costing information through the recording of materials and labour details.

10. Ensure the supply of stock is maintained at appropriate levels through the monitoring and reporting of stock levels.

11. Ensure a high quality of service through continuing education and training programs.

12. Undertake other tasks as required at the direction of the Prosthetic and Orthotic and Podiatry Department manager.

13. Follow defined service quality standards. Work health and safety policy and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated experience, or transferable skills, to undertake the role of a technical assistant within the Alice Springs Hospital

Prosthetic and Orthotic team.

2. Demonstrated experience with stock control.

3. Administrative and interpersonal skills to enable the use of technology and communication for use with clients and to ensure

accurate documentation in medical files and departmental records.

4. Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

5. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply Workplace Health and Safety and Infection Control policy and procedures.

6. Demonstrated experience, or transferable skills, in the interpretation and application of technical requirements.

7. Self-motivated and organised.
